ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DEAN OF STUDENTS

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

           

Holds a valid Kentucky supervisor or counselor certificate in accordance with rules and regulations of the Commonwealth of Kentucky Educational Professional Standards Board.
Minimum of three years of experience in teaching and/or administration.
Proven ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and administration.
Training/experience in test administration and interpretation.
Exhibit a willingness to work as part of the school and district administrative teams.
 

REPORTS TO:

            Elementary School Principal

 

JOB GOAL:

            To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making

educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women.

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

 

Student Focus

 

Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such areas as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality.
Administers the district’s testing program.
Interprets group and individual test results to faculty and parents.
Assists teachers with the Response to Intervention (RTI) process.
Assists in chairing Admissions and Release Committees.
Interprets group test results to Board of Education and public.
Provides input regarding curriculum in the elementary school.
Confers with parents regularly.
Makes home visits as directed by principal.
Assists in the coordination of effective parent involvement program.
Advises administrators and faculty on the matters of student discipline.
Coordinates referrals to community agencies such as CHR, Comprehensive Care, Family Service, Ludlow Family Resource Center, etc.
Assists in registering students new to the school and orients them to school procedures and the school’s varied opportunities for learning.
Guides students in their participation in school and community activities.
Cooperates with teachers and principal regarding special attendance problems.
Develops programs to meet needs of elementary school students, e.g. advisor/advisee.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

School Climate

 

Advises administrators and faculty on the matters of student discipline.
Maintains discipline throughout the student body, and deals with special cases as necessary.
Supervises the cafeteria and holds students accountable for appropriate behavior.
Supervises student areas before school and during dismissal.
Assists principal in the supervision of extra-curricular events.
Participates in the planning and supervision of all school assemblies and events.
Maintains all discipline records and completes the annual Safe Schools Report.
Keeps parents informed regarding student discipline issues.
Assigns students to and monitors after school detention as necessary.
Helps to design and implement the school’s Emergency Management procedures.
Provides information and training to all staff in discipline strategies and procedures.
Performs other duties as directed by the principals or superintendent.
 

 

           

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Determined by the Board of Education.  Salary and work year to be in accordance with the current teacher schedule.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
